By the time Stretch is released as a stable release, Wheezy will *not*
be supported. Asking for backwards compatibility for two stable
releases, especially when there is so much time between stable
releases, is not something which is reasonable to support, since it
also denies the benefit of new features to Debian users.

The number of people who need backwards compatibility with antique
versions of Linux is much smaller, and it's reasonable IMHO to assume
that they will need to use specific command-line options to create a
degraded, less featureful (and in some cases, less performant) file
system, because they want that backwards compatibility.
