Dear Maintainer, Following up on bug 856933 which was closed without being resolved, the upstream developers have discovered a possible source of the bug: In short, the intended device detection timeout of 250 milliseconds was, in fact, programmed as 250 seconds. Therefore, X waits up to 4 minutes and 10 seconds _for each_ serial tablet feature that X is trying to find, causing the system to lock up. (source: https://sourceforge.net/p/linuxwacom/bugs/333/ ) A patch has already been loaded to that bug report. I'm requesting that this patch, a one-liner conversion from microseconds to milliseconds, be expedited into unstable rather than wait for the next upstream release cycle. This should be a fairly uncontroversial patch and will let those of us with serial tablets use them again.
