I don't see the issue you descibe here and that is described in the related upstream issue on my Debian stretch system.
Can you send a photo of the changes caused by above patches you see on screen? Currently, I can read the browser URLs (tried Chrome, Chromium alike) quite well (they are sort of whit'ish / bright gray).
