Package: debian-handbook
Version: 8.20170323
Severity: important

Hi,

In ยง6.1.3, debian-handbook encourages users of testing/unstable to include
stable, testing and unstable in their sources.list.

# Unstable
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian unstable main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.debian.org/debian unstable main contrib non-free

# Testing
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian testing main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.debian.org/debian testing main contrib non-free

# Stable
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian stable main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.debian.org/debian stable main contrib non-free

# Security updates
deb http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates main contrib non-free
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates main contrib non-free

This sets users up for some very spectacular problems. Mixed stable/testing
systems are supported only in the sense that the upgrade should be possible.
Mixed stable/unstable systems are completely unsupported. Users will also
install packages from stable but be unable to get security updates either
to those packages or to other packages from testing/unstable owing to the
particular mix they have -- conflicts/breaks will leave them held back.

(It probably should have s/ftp.debian.org/deb.debian.org/ applied throughout
too)

thanks for fixing
Stuart
