Newest rsyslog saves the PID in /run/rsyslog.pid (/var/run/rsyslog.pid) instead of the location /run/rsyslogd.pid (/var/run/rsyslogd.pid). That confuses not only the init script that can not see the status of running rsyslog anymore but also monitoring frameworks as, for example, monit, that are looking at the old location.
