Actually I'd rather like to know myself. It appears in /var/lib/dpkg/status,
an entry like this:
Package: texlive-base
Status: unknown ok not-installed
Architecture: amd64
Unseen: no
State: 1
Dselect-State: 1
Remove-Reason: 0
I don't know if it is possible to retrace how something like this crept into
the dpkg status database, anyway I would not know how to do it. However, the
"Dselect-State: 1" line may hint that this may have been caused by me using
dselect (instead of some more modern interface) on a multi-arch system?
Perhaps back when dselect did not actually support multi-arch properly?
Just trying to guess.
