Dear Maintainer,
The readme /usr/share/doc/unattended-upgrades/README.md.gz states that
unattended-upgrades is "is not enabled by default[,]" but as of the
stable release of stretch, it is enabled by default. (The debconf
information below are the default values, and the files listed in the
README that the user needs to create are present and populated as
described in the README.)
