sorry for the spam, but on a different PC I verified that my modified package doesn't fix the problem. I've tested upstream version 3.22.6 and 3.22.7 and the bug is still present, but on the Ubuntu repository there are 4 patches for 3.22.7 that definitely fix it: 0001-Download-changelog-information-on-demand-this-stops-.patch 0002-Add-an-APT-plugin.patch 0007-Handle-apt-URLs-of-the-form-apt-packagename.patch 0013-Use-correct-form-when-handling-APT-URLs.patch The 4 patches don't apply cleanly to 3.22.5 and aren't enough to solve the bug. I'm wondering if 3.22.7 could transition to Stretch, otherwise if there is enough interest I could try to backport the relevant changes from 3.22.6 and 3.22.7.
