Oh, the reason I went for this approach over m_vcf is basically that vdirsyncer/khard work with a directory with one .vcf file per contact, which is rather cumbersome to configure in m_vcf. Also, if I'm using khard anyway (e.g. with the add-email integration suggested at https://github.com/scheibler/khard/#mutt) then it's convenient to have it act as a backend for lbdb too.
