I found the problem.  For some reason, one of my non-system groups
referenced an account that didn't exist anymore. After removing that
username with vigr and vigr -s, that error is gone.

Since it really was a "user error", or a system-configuration problem,
I'm closing this bug.  Sorry for the trouble, Martin. :/
