The Outlook Express 4.xx doesn't work with standard SMTP AUTH. This is because

implement the workaround on the mail server.

Given that Outlook Express 4.xx is ancient and the SMTP AUTH RFC is quite clear, and our policy is to stay as close as possible to upstream, I am rejecting this patch, thus tagging this bug "wontfix".

It is not true that your package is close to upstream. The list of patches shows you're applied localscan_dlopen and exiscan. This is far from upstream.

Not supporting such ancient OE4.xx makes Exim less useful for real usage than i.e. Postfix. I don't want to switch to completly different MTA because Exim doesn't support this hack.

If you're a service provider, you have the skills to patch exim
yourself. The Debian source package uses dpatch, making local patches
extremely easy.

In fact, I sent you *.dpatch file so I knew it is easy. I just want to be sure I will be always in sync with the latest security updates so the patch in the Debian package is important for me.

What are the real reasons for rejecting the patch?

Can you reconsider your decision, please?

Thanks in advance.
