I'm not sure if there is a formal standard, but the NAME envvar is used by various MTAs to determine the sender's real name for the "From:" header when sending mail. At least Qmail and Courier do it. That's why I decided to set the NAME var and thought it would be redundant to also set DEBFULLNAME with the same value if debchange could just as well fall back to NAME. > Also, debchange already falls back to using gecos name info if > DEBFULLNAME is not set. Hmm, interesting. I have tested it again, and it seems to determine my name correctly now even if DEBFULLNAME is undefined. I don't know what was going wrong when I initially reported this wish. (I know it had been annoying me for a while at that time.) Feel free to close this bug if you don't want to fall back to the NAME envvar. Thanks, Julian.
