The current version of swig does not support Octave 4.2. Since octave 4.2.1 is currently in Debian sid, swig is currently rather useless for octave bindings. The problem is solved with swig-3.0.12, so upgrading would fix this problem. The current status however prevents from re-intoduction of the octave-plplot package, hence the severity. There is however also a patch available https://github.com/swig/swig/pull/875 which is used by Fedora to fix the problem there. Best regards Ole
