And it is quite likely that the Latin modern fonts will become the default fonts in LaTeX (they allready are in ConTeXt). So /now/ is the time for you to contact the Latin Modern developers and convince them that \textasciitilde should be lowered. The only other way to get a 'standard' solution would be to upload appropriate (virtual) font metrics to CTAN and hope that TeX distributions will include them. cheerio ralf
