thanks a lot for not only reporting this issue but also finding and testing the fix. I can also reproduce the problem and confirm that the mentioned commit fixes the issue. I am in the process of adopting syslinux as part of the debian-cd team. A fixed version will probably be uploaded to unstable soon. I will also try to get this included in the next point release (9.3), but we're obviously careful about changes to bootloader code so I can't promise anything. Regards Lukas
