Thanks for teaching me UNIX basics, which is certainly not necessary -
but no matter how to read a mnual page:

The bug that CUPS does *not* default to the FQDN remains. CUPS *only*
allows the hostname part, *not* the FQDN by default, probably because
the authors use a system where the FQDN goes in /etc/hostname.
