I can confirm that this workaround appears to work for me as well.

The haveged man page suggests this might be autodetecting it somehow:

       -d nnn, --data=nnn
                     Set data cache size to nnn KB. Default is 16 or as
                     determined dynamically.

Presumably, something in the dynamic detection is being triggered by
certain hardware-specific issues, since setting the value manually
appears to not trigger the issue...
