This is now working 'cos I upgraded python-gnome2 to the unstable 2.12
version. I am now getting the following:

$ gramps
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/gramps/gramps.py", line 45, in ?
    import gtk.glade
ImportError: /usr/lib/libXft.so.2: undefined symbol: FT_GlyphSlot_Embolden

This is after the latest round of testing upgrades which included glade stuff.
I might try downgrading python-gnome2 back to 2.10. I must say this is the
first time I have had such problems with Debian testing. I should add that
there are other bogosities with Gnome including incorrect rendering of my
desktop background.
