This issue was actually a gvfs bug and it got fixed in upstream version 1.31.3.
See the Ubuntu xenial backport bug for more info: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1133477So closing this issue for gvfs in unstable. However, it seems that the stretch version of gvfs is still affected.
