Package: inn2
Version: 2.6.1-2
Severity: important
Dear Maintainer,
I recently upgraded from jessie to stretch and my inn2 setup stopped
working:
- the articles from my incoming feed (via UUCP) are SILENTLY dropped;
- the daily usenet report contains the following error:
/usr/lib/news/bin/scanlogs: line 206: /usr/bin/gzip: No such file or directory
After a few investigations I found out that while in jessie /bin/gzip is
used (in innshellvars.* and in include/inn/paths.h.in), /usr/bin/gzip is
used in those files in stretch. But only /bin/gzip actually exists on a
Debian system.
I manually added /usr/bin/gzip (as a symlink to /bin/gzip) and my feed
started to work again.
I think there are two issues to be addressed here:
- correct the package to actually use /bin/gzip again;
- make rnews and/or gunbatch fail with an error insted of silently
dropping the incoming batch.
Feel free to ask if more information is needed.
Tom
