$ scanimage -L
device `hpaio:/net/HP_OfficeJet_Pro_8710?ip=192.168.9.238' is a Hewlett-Packard 
HP_OfficeJet_Pro_8710 all-in-one

hmm.. this clearly contradicts what I wrote before:

I'm pretty sure I checked that fact carefully before writing so. I'm not sure 
what's going on.
