Source: python3-defaults Version: 3.6.4~rc1-2 Severity: minor Dear maintainers,
The Python Policy (version 0.10.1.1) mentions wrong directory to use for
local Python 3 modules. I think it needs this fix:
--- old/debian/python-policy.dbk 2017-09-01 06:29:49 +0000
+++ new/debian/python-policy.dbk 2017-12-18 20:31:10 +0000

<para>
A special directory is dedicated to public Python modules
installed by the local administrator,
- <filename>/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages</filename> for all Python 3
versions,
+ <filename>/usr/local/lib/python3/dist-packages</filename> for all
Python 3 versions,
<filename>/usr/local/lib/python2.<replaceable>Y</replaceable>/dist-packages</filename>
for
Python 2.
</para>
Note that the patch is against python-defaults, since the version of policy
in python3-defaults is terribly outdated. However filing the bug here as
requested by the maintainer.
Also, it is not clear what is the difference in purpose between this paragraph
(dist-packages) and the next paragraph (site-packages). Maybe it should be
mentioned that the latter is for compatibility with some upstream tools.
Finally, the last two paragraphs about architecture-independent modules can
probably be dropped as they are no longer different from normal modules.
