I've only just noticed now because I previously had a local build of
tin to support AUTHINFO GENERIC (which is now in the Debian package,
thanks).
Was this file only ever provided and used by tin ? If there really is
nothing else besides this one local program which might use it (even
nothing else old) then I could change that of course.
It would seem wrong of tin to delete a file that it didn't provide
itself.
