Hi! ROBERTOJIMENOCA [2005-02-17 15:20 +0000]: > What's the status of postgresql-8 debian package? > Is anyone working on it?
I am working very hard on them, but it will still take a while until something truly releasable is ready. However, it is worth the trouble since the new design and packaging is much more flexible and robust than the old one: http://people.debian.org/~mpitt/postgresql-ng.html > Are you going to upload something to experimental or unstable shortly? Not to unstable, Sarge's release process is too far for doing such major changes. For Sarge I'm just stabilizing the 7.4.7 version with the "old" packaging. > Is postgresql-8 incompatible with postgresql-7? Yes. You need to dump and reload. > What's the release plan? The 8.0 packages are ready, the common infrastucture, too. I still need to finish packaging 7.4 for the new infrastructure and to prepare an upgrade path from the legacy packages. If that is ready, I will upload the packages to experimental. > Are you going to replace postgresql-7 with postgresql-8? > Are you going to maintain both versions in Debian? No, with the new architecture both major version can coexist in parallel. I will maintain both versions for Sarge+1. However, you can always get the latest stuff from the arch repository at http://arch.debian.org/arch/pkg-postgresql/ From time to time I also release snapshots to http://people.ubuntu.com/~pitti/psql Martin -- Martin Pitt http://www.piware.de Ubuntu Developer http://www.ubuntulinux.org Debian GNU/Linux Developer http://www.debian.org
