hello Eddy
You can implement it.
BUT: if it is not optional, do a test at the beginning
to see if md5 is available and if it does the right things
(a test like "echo 'I love Debian' | grep "0ede68d5c8346db039dca19dc3b46174").
I would read the rest of your last mail tonight, but I think
it will not convince me that md5 is useful.
I think that md5 will not detect more error as wget will report us.
But I rarely used md5 (solaris did not have installed), and I
never see corrupted downloaded files. (I think IP/TCP checksums are
enough).
So to be really convinced I need a real example where md5sum really
matter.
Anyway If you want to re implement in a manner that it will not
disturb on normal cases, I'm OK with this (theoretical? :-) ) solution.
ciao
