Unfortunately, I don't think so. I don't have time to work directly with the code and upstream seems to be working towards a version for Gaim 2.0.
So I'm sorry, but unless someone provies a working patch for this we'll probably have to live with it until Gaim 2.0 and Gaim-encryption 3.0 (which _might_ even come out before Etch, knowing the length of Debian's release cycle...)
