Yes, if mplayer, mpv or omxplayer is already installed, an additional player would be unnecessary.
Thanks for adding those to control file in future release. Interestingly enough I've noticed it on apt upgrade and bypassed it with an apt.conf which contains: APT::Install-Recommends "0";
