On Debian (and some other distributions) this group is "plugdev", which
is used for all removable media. You also need udev > 0.079-080+1, which
contains the up-to-date udev rules for ensuring the device has the
proper permissions.

I'm leaving this bug open, because the README.Debian in the package is
out of date.
