ddir is fairly broken on my machine due to a possible typo in what
appears to be a more recent addition. Use closedir instead of close:

<     closedir $DIR  or  warn "Close failure: $ERRNO $dir";
>     close $DIR  or  warn "Close failure: $ERRNO $dir";
