Thanks for fixing this in unstable. I will just mention again that it made my stretch system unbootable, so perhaps it's worth at least considering a fix in stable as well? At the very least, it would be nice to have it fixed in stable _if_ initramfs-tools-core needs a new version for any other reason. The system in question is currently running a version of the package I built locally with my patch applied, which is the only reason it boots successfully now, so if an upstream version replaces my local one and I'm not paying enough attention to hastily re-patch it, then my system will probably become unbootable again.
