In general I'm reluctant to add new feature patches, especially invasive ones. We've already had many of them in the past and I was glad about each which has been accepted upstream. Rebasing them with new upstream releases is not always trivial, but always extra work. On the other hand there seems to be demand from more than one person for this particular feature. So if anyone can provide me a) a working patch against the Debian package in unstable or the upstream screen-v4 branch, and b) a step-by-step instructions for how to test it, I would be inclined to add such a patch. I though do not need this feature myself, so my motivation to gather everthing necessary for a working patch based on the patches found by the above mentioned search and potentially further ones, is rather low. Hence tagging this bug report as "help" (and "confirmed" as truecolor support is indeed not in Debian's screen package yet).
