Hi, Quite a while ago you reported this bug:

Unfortunately, equota and quotatool work in quite a different way: edquota reads quotas directly from the aquota.user and aquota.group file, while quotatool relies on the kernel interface to read the quotas. Therefore, this is not something that can be easily changed. I will, however, update the error message to be a bit more descriptive. Greetings, Bas.
