Package: grep-dctrl
Version: 2.6.7
Severity: wishlist
Hi!
I'll paste here my previous mail to #278815, which best describes this
wishlist:
-----------------------------8<------------------------------------------
Hi!
Antti-Juhani, I think we may have chatted in the past about how the
relation between the Source and Package fields in Debian packages
(namely, the former is omitted if it'd be the same as the second)
affects the usability of grep-dctrl, and how users have to create
workarounds.
For example, Andreas Barth (CC'ed) asks in #278815 for a special-cased
-S option, that would be like -FSource, but looking at Package if no
Source is present). And myself, I use regularly a filter [1] to make
output of grep-dctrl uniform with respect these two fields.

As mentioned in the Addendum of [1], this could be solved cleanly with
an option in grep-dctrl to get the value of field A from field B, if
field A is not present. This has the advantage that it'd work in all
levels: both when field A is in --field (Andreas' use case), and when
it's in --show-field (mine).
Do you think that such option would have a place in grep-dctrl, or do
you on the contrary think that this problem should be solved elsewhere?
If you think it'd be reasonable for grep-dctrl have such option, I
will submit a wishlist bug about it.
----------------------------->8------------------------------------------
And, quoting you:
> Yes, it seems reasonable and consistent with the grep-dctrl mission :)
So here is this wishlist bug. :)
Cheers,
