Package: amd64-microcode
Version: 3.20180524.1
Severity: normal

While microcode for families 15h and 17h seems new-ish, the microcode
shipped for family 16h seems to match what's in linux-firmware upstream,
which dates back to... 2014-11-30.

I own a system using a 00730F01 CPU (AMD GX-412TC, the system is a PC
Engines APU2). Another user pointed to a newer version in the wild:
https://github.com/platomav/CPUMicrocodes/blob/master/AMD/cpu00730F01_ver07030106_2018-02-09_88EDFAA0.bin

I successfully installed that on my system, and the system is working so
far -- patch_level is reported as 0x07030106. It seems that this added
e.g. IBPB, so it did have a user-visible effect. No idea if there are
any ill-effects yet.

I realize that it may be awkward (read: impossible) to grab unsigned,
unlicensed microcode versions from GitHub, but I'm reporting it as a
data point that upstream has worked on a new version, and hoping that
you may have some contacts with upstream or otherwise that may result in
you getting an update from a proper channel :)

Also note that the manufacturer is in contact with AMD and has asked for
updated microcodes which they may or may not ship as part of their open
source coreboot BIOS updates(!). This is tracked on their GitHub at:
https://github.com/pcengines/apu2-documentation/issues/75

Thanks!
Faidon
