In my case, this was triggered by a flood of "pstore: crypto_comp_decompress failed" messages from the kernel, and removing /sys/fs/pstore/dmesg* fixed the problem (cf https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=902966) -Nikolaus
