Thanks for your further investigation!

One option we are currently pondering for stretch at the moment is to
just accept the output behaviour change for ps2ascii. But we are not
going to rush an upload, codesearch gives some hint what else can be
checked first.

Reverting fb713b3818b52d8a6cf62c951eba2e1795ff9624 will not be an
option as the CVE fix is important.
