Kenshi> There are alternative PPDs (foomatic-filters-ppds, hp-ppd, Kenshi> foomatic-db-hpijs, etc.), so how about other PPD?
Kenshi> Because cupsys only provides interface, I think this problem is Kenshi> from PPD or Ghostscript. HP PCL 6 driver file isn't cupsys's, Kenshi> but gs-esp's. First, I must confess that the whole post-lpr printing world confuses the hell out of me. You mention three related packages, and there are easily a dozen more. How do they fit together? I haven't been able to find any TFM on the web or in the packages themselves that would give me the big picture. Are ppds completely independent of drivers? That is, can I just grab a different ppd and drop it into /etc/cups/ppd and use it with the existing driver? Because I tried that; I apt-get sourced hp-ppd and copied the ppd for my specific printer. The result was: 1/ I got many more features to select from in the web configuration page. 2/ Printing a postscript file didn't work at all, it just dumped the raw postscript as text. -- I wonder which is the best virus for unix and if I can write a better one in Microsoft BASIC ?
