Hi, Thanks for the screencast, I'll try to see if I can reproduce the bug based on that. (I noticed the glitch at the right side of the test file, at the X pattern too.)

U+259F range) are painted manually. As for the font, only its dimensions should be relevant. > Note: I'm using the FVWM window manager, no desktop environment, > and the NVIDIA driver (provided by the official Debian packages). I have some ATI Radeon. According to my memories from a loooooong time ago, there used to be two nvidia drivers: an open-source non-accelerated and a closed-source accelerated one, one called nv and the other called nvidia (not sure which was which). I don't know if this is still the case. If so, do you happen to know which one you're using? Can you by any chance switch to the other one? And/or if you have another video card built in to the motherboard (typically Intel on laptops, really unsure about desktop), can you maybe try that? Unfortunately I cannot remember at all how to switch between them, so figuring out would be up to you. At this point I cannot rule out the possibility of this being a bug in the nvidia driver, or cairo, or somehow their interaction. But it also could be a bug in VTE. Thanks a lot, egmont
