Package: udev Version: 0.053-1 Desription :
After installing the package "udev", X could not be started any more. Reason: udev deleted all "/dev/nvidiax" (x=number of device) and "/dev/input/mice" After reboot, /dev/input/mice was already there, but NOT /dev/nvidia. So, I installed the nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx again, using the NVidia-Installer-$version.sh. This installer inludes a script, which creates new "/dev/nvidiax". X (and window-manager) now started fine. After a new reboot, /dev/nvidiax was gone, and therefore, X didn't start again. Possible solution: One suggestion: Extract the NVidia-Installer.sh and use its nvidiamakedev.sh during init. Make a symlink into your recommended runlevel, to point to it. So, you are sure, that the /dev/nvidiax is created, whenever you reboot again. Other idea: I do not know, if it is possible, to make a directory, named "nvidia" below /dev. Might be, it will work..... Thank you for youre work ! Best regards Hans-J. Ullrich -- Firma Ullrich-IT-Consult Inh.: Hans-J.
