similar to Adrian I fail to follow why this is spare's problem. Unless
sparse used llvm-config wrongly I think the problem at hand is that the
output of llvm-config is bad and responsible for the build failure.
Agreed that this is llvm-config. I reassigned to sparse because this isn't
a recent issue that llvm-config is bad and sparse is already workarounding
its limitations.

Right, sparse could work around the problem by filtering the output of
llvm-config, but this is not the right fix for this problem.
Please implement the filtering in llvm (and also drop -pedantic and
-DNDEBUG from it, too).
