Has anything related to this issue changed? It has blocked packaging zathura's mupdf backend for nearly 5 years now, which is currently the only way to view epub files in zathura. I currently compile my own version of mupdf, zathura, and zathura-pdf-mupdf to work around this issue and would like to be able to just use Debian's package.
I'm willing to help if I can, but it seems like the obstacle might not a technical one at this point. -- Alex Griffin
