I have heard of it, but never actually tested it. FWIW we've been using this config for ~10 years now and this is only the 4th time it's bitten us (albeit one of the worst). Perhaps it's time to have a closer look at unattended-upgrades?! > Have you tried figuring out why apt wants to remove mariadb-server? FWIW we have apt configured to only install 'depends' and I assume that it has moved from a 'recommends' to a 'depends' although that is only a guess...
