Since last time we discussed this bug some other problems surfaced regarding how u-u handles the upgrades on shutdown, and I think 1.7 solved the solvable issues [1]. I also considered adding a mode that upgrades packages on shutdown without networking enabled, but I did not find a solution that would not break something else. OTOH I'm open to adding a mode which would use systemd's offline-updates and optionally always reboot again after the upgrade steps answering the issue you raised in [2]. At the moment I'm satisfied with the modes u-u provides and I'd like to work on other parts to make upgrades smoother thus I don't plan working on this mode but as I said I'd be happy to merge patches and have it implemented.
