Tags: wontfix The dependency was set to Recommends in https://salsa.debian.org/mariadb-team/mariadb-10.3/commit/da407b9f50a13c0ee69709156b82e6ddb43065e0 to avoid circular rependencies, as libdbd-mysql-perl itself depends on the MySQL client library.
I am however leaving this bug report open in case somebody can provide a patch to get around this and a gitlab-ci.yml test that verifies that the change works as expected and has no regressions in itself.
