Hi Mike, I'm going over old bug reports, and for this one, it seems that the fix you refer to went in 4.9, and was also backported into Xen 4.8.4 as commit c31070f350 "tools/libxc: Avoid generating inappropriate zero-content records". This means it has trickled into Debian as part of stable update 4.8.4+xsa273+shim4.10.1+xsa273-1+deb9u10 on Wed, 15 Aug 2018. I'm sorry to read that you felt a bit lost without help in 2017.
