Package: emacs-common Version: 1:26.1+1-3 Severity: important Dear Maintainer,
After an update in December gnus stopped being able to load mail from my local mail spool. When I finally got around to looking into it (in my case that's not the bulk of my mail) it turned out that the mail-source-movemail function in gnus/mail-source.el checks in exec-directory (/usr/lib/emacs/26.1/x86_64-linux-gnu, on my system) for the movemail executable if mail-source-movemail-program isn't set, rather than the path. movemail isn't there, so that fails with a rather unhelpful message in the minibuffer: Mail source (file :path /var/mail/nowan) error (Searching for program). Continue? (yes or no) It wasn't until I happened to check the messages buffer that I found a more complete message and realized the problem was with movemail. Setting mail-source-movemail-program to "/usr/bin/movemail" restored the expected behavior for me. -- System Information: Debian Release: buster/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 4.19.0-2-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages emacs-common depends on: ii emacsen-common 3.0.4 ii install-info 6.5.0.dfsg.1-4+b1 Versions of packages emacs-common recommends: ii emacs-el 1:26.1+1-3 Versions of packages emacs-common suggests: pn emacs-common-non-dfsg <none> ii ncurses-term 6.1+20181013-1 -- no debconf information
