Sorry, but if you can't climb ladders, you can't play the game, which makes
it unusable on a release architecture.  Either it needs to be fixed, or the
amd64 binaries need to be dropped.

FWIW, I was just about to write a mail confirming that this bug is
reproducible on amd64 when your mail came in. :)
