I cannot confirm this bug. I have a VM installed with buster and bash
5.0-2. After generating a new initrd I can boot this VM without any
problems. Inside the initrd /bin/sh is a symlink to bash.

I can confirm this when using your test code.
Strange. Maybe this code is not executed when booting my VM.
