Yes, it's not going to fail the build on default Debian (currently) although it does fail the build on Ubuntu. Whenever you do a Debian upload of libunistring, someone in Ubuntu will then need to manually merge your changes with this proposed change. Maybe eventually Debian will use --as-needed by default too (Debian GNOME already opts in to that for its packages). Thanks, Jeremy Bicha
