This also happens with searches without doing a replace. In the search case the character following the ß is highlighted as well. The search also behaves strangely for other accented characters in short files. A search for á in áx will highlight x instead of á. However, the search behaves as expected, if the “Match case” option is enabled. The non matching case search is implemented in src/gtksourceiter.c and the bug might come from an off-by-one error in the forward_chars_with_skipping or lines_match functions in that file. There seems to be no upstream where this bug could be forwarded to.
